The Redclaws Social Bowls Club at Palm Lake Resort Bargara is a great way of being outdoors, exercising and meeting residents. Bowls has many different types of bowls over each week: Mens bowls three mornings a week, ladies bowls on Thursday mornings, Scroungers on Monday nights, Mixed pairs on Saturday afternoons and mixed triples/fours the afternoons of Wednesday, Friday and Sundays. We also have special days during the year. Please come along on one of these days. If you are a new bowler and wish to learn this great game, please contact Bob McNamee, our resident coach, on 7384. Also please do not hesitate to call me on 7015, and I will endeavour to assist you in your enquiries. To become a member of the Redclaws Social Bowls Club please join our club which will cost you $1/person whilst you are a resident at PLR Bargara (see a Committee member or sheets are in Arch File near Bowls noticeboard).

Last Sunday 1/12 was the last of the sponsor days for the 2024 calendar year with Affordable Screens and Blinds. Sundays 8th, 15th and 22nd will be Christmas bowls days. This year we are changing to a new concept. This year we are concentrating on the bowlers who have contributed throughout the year. There will be money prizes for winners and losers. All bowlers will have a chance (over the 3 Xmas bowling days) to win meat and seafood vouchers. One winning voucher per villa. Happy Christmas and hope you all enjoy 2025.

Happy first day of November. Last Sunday was a sponsor day by Bundaberg Eye Clinic. Dr Isobel McLean handed out the money prizes. Today is money prizes supplied by Redclaws for the 1st Friday of the month. Sunday is another sponsor day by Coral Coast Physio. Sunday 17 November is a special day. Sponsor Ian from Travel Managers sent through 24 bottles of red wine. These will go to players as prizes. Also Howard v181 is organising a sausage sizzle on that day. Relay For Life will be catering with BBQ sausages/hamburgers. Sheets will be up on the board shortly for catering numbers. Reminder that next Wednesday the main green will be north/south for the month of November.

Well Beachmere Bay visit went off exceptionally well. A big thank you to all who organised and assisted. Relay for Life came to the fore with excellent catering, all lovely and on time. A big thank you to Margaret Veitch who gave her time with some lovely cakes. This Sunday is the Redclaws AGM, at 10am. Please attend if possible. Followed by Joan's President's Day. This year we have a different concept following along the lines of a sponsor day. 29 September will be Odds versus Evens (ie odd villa nos. versus even villa nos.) A bit of friendly rivalry.

Busy fortnight coming up. Firstly: Palm Lake Resort Beachmere Bay bowlers will be visiting and playing for the shield that was first started in 2022. There will not be any twilight bowls on this Wednesday 4 September. The visit schedule will be Wednesday bowls: 9.15 start for the morning games, lunch, then 1.15pm start for the afternoon games. Same concept for the Thursday games. Followed by presentations in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse, then the merriment will continue at the Bargara Tavern. Friday is money day supplied by the Redclaws Bowls, Sunday is a sponsor day Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre $300 day. Busy times coming up.

Today's rain will leave puddles on the greens. Please try to avoid if possible. On the back green, please use middle rinks if able. Sunday 25 August is Ian Long's Travel Managers Sponsorship Day $300, also Ian will be at the theatre in the Sea Breeze Clubhouse 9am Sunday to inform people of available cruises, etc. Please come along he is very informative. The attendees list will be up by this weekend. The Redclaws Social Bowls Club AGM will be held at 10am Sunday 15 September in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse. Nominations for positions on the Committee are available. This will be followed by President Joan's Day at 1pm. Come along and support the bowls group.

The Mixed Triples competition has started and will hopefully be finalised by end of July 2024. We have a few more sponsorships coming up: Sunday 14/7 - Des Allen Funerals $200 prize money; 28/7 - Bargara Meats $200 prize vouchers; 11/8 Affordable Screens & Blinds $300 prize money and 25/8 Travel Managers $300 prize money. Ian Long, Travel Managers will again be holding an information session on the Sunday morning of 25 August. Any queries coming along and he will be happy to answer them if he can. September 4 & 5th Beachmere Bay PLR will be bringing 22 teams, please contact Julia Fagg villa 89 or Shirley Nichols villa 350 if you are interested in putting in a team of mixed triples.

During the month of June, the men and ladies 3 bowls pairs championships are being held. All results are on the bowls noticeboard. Today is Clear Optometry sponsor day, end of June will be Bundaberg Eye Clinic sponsor day. Take note that at the start of September, PLR Beachmere Bay Resort bowlers will be visiting. A day and half of fun with other resort residents. More information to come as September gets closer. Also in September will the Redclaws Social Bowls Club AGM. Please consider if you would like to be on the committee and assist in keeping this activity a major part of the resort.

Redclaws Singles Men and Ladies A & B Grade championships are coming to a close. Audience interest has been very good, with some extra special good bowls being played. Three (3) bowl pairs has closed, teams will go up on the board on Monday 21st May. Ladies teams are being played at 9.30 am on Monday 21st May. A Grade: Trish villa 500 vs Carol villa 510. B Grade: Lorelle villa 457 vs Lynette villa 195. A and B grade men's teams hopefully will play on the same day/time. To be confirmed.

Sunday 2 June Sponsor day will be Matt Loch from Flow Dynamics. Wednesday 5 June at 1:30 State of Origin will be held. 18 ends. Twilight Wednesday bowls will continue at 3.30 pm start until further notice (of course, excluding State of Origin).

Welcome to the Redclaws in April. Last Sunday (Easter) we had a $500 special day. This is following on from our commitment to give the bowlers their money back with winners and losers taking home the spoils. This Friday 5 April is first Friday for the month with $200 winners and losers money prizes. Sunday is Affordable Screens & Blinds $300 day. Please keep up the good work with moneyboards, lucky villa draw and meat voucher raffles. This money goes back to the bowlers. The Championships will be starting on 1 May with mens and ladies singles A & B grades will be decided by the judges. Please participate, it really does help with a) learning the rules of the game; b) you are in charge of your own destiny with no other bowls except your opponent. It gives you self confidence.

This Sunday 10 March, Redclaws and the Residents Association are sponsoring a Ladies vs Men Mixed Bowls afternoon. Ladies please wear pink. Come along for a bit of fun. The men always win, but we have been close. Maybe this year????
At the end of March the Past President Bowlers are being invited to have a game of bowls, with a sausage sizzle prior to the game. Being held on Wednesday 27 March, game starts at 5.30pm. Please note that the scoops are being fixed by residents as these are unique and we are unable to purchase more. PLEASE TAKE CARE WITH THESE BOWLS SCOOPS. ONCE COMPLETELY BROKEN THEY MAY NOT BE REPLACEABLE.

We have news: Ian Long, Travel Managers is coming back in August. For all your travel needs, Ian is great to work with. Also a new sponsor: Matthew from Flow Dynammics is having a sponsor day in June.
Some bowlers are interested in buying a new type of arm: with Automatic release. There has been some trouble with "releasing" the bowls, so Darren McCracken from Crackers Bowls Shop will be on the green at 2.30 pm on Wednesday 28 February to give a demonstration on how to use this new type of device.

Redclaws mixed bowls enjoyed a great day. Sponsor, Ian Long from Travel Managers, gave a presentation to a group of residents in the morning and attended a sponsor bowls day in the afternoon. Great day. Ian would like to come again later in the year (date to be decided as yet as we have a busy schedule). Affordable Screens & Blinds Sponsor Day $300 will be held 25 February, 2024. Good afternoon bowlers. This Sunday 11 February, our sponsor Ian Long, Travel Managers will be at the resort. It is a $300 sponsor day. Ian will also hold a presentation on travel at 9.30 am in the Sea Breeze Clubhouse. Attendance sheets are up in both clubhouses ie Sea Breeze and Ocean Breeze. Ian is very knowledgeable on travel. He has been sponsoring the bowls for a few years now. He also looks after other Palm Lake Resorts. Please come along and ask your questions. I haven't put a sheet up at the Horizons as there is no noticeboard, so please don't feel left out.

For those people who knew Allan Schultz, his funeral is being held on Friday. We will keep all informed of time and place. There is a card (made by Lynn McColl) for all to sign. It is available on the bowls bench in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse.

Well so far we have enjoyed to very hot sponsor days since the start of 2024. Des Allen Funerals and Searles RV Centre are again our sponsors and will continue with another 2 sponsor days later in the year. Our next sponsors day is Travel Managers $300 Day on 11 February 2024. Ian Long sponsors Bargara, Hervey Bay and Caloundra (I think). There will be a presentation by Ian at 9.30 am on Sunday 11 February in the Theatre, Sea Breeze Club House. Attendance lists (2) are on the bowls noticeboard and general noticeboard outside the Theatre. He is very knowledgeable and quite a few residents have used his knowledge and expertise on travel.

Welcome to 2024. The Redclaws Social Bowls will start off at 3.30 pm on Wednesday 10 January with twilight bowls. Please note we are trialling an earlier start, as this will give people a bit more time to eat earlier.
At the moment, I am setting up the schedule for all events that are confirmed for this new year. Please inform me if all is NOT okay. We will be having a Past Presidents Sausage Sizzle on the last twilight game in March. We have lost a couple of sponsors, but still keep our major ones. Any problems please let me know at villa 15.

This Sunday 3 December is Credence Insurance $300 Sponsor Day. As the back bowls green is finally being relaid, we will be on the new green. We will endeavour to fit as many, or as little, bowlers as possible. Christmas bowls will be held over 2 Sundays: 10 December & 17 December. Again there will be a free drink and a free raffle ticket for all registered bowlers. We are endeavouring to replicate the success of last years. Two hours of bowls then in for prizes, such as $50 meat vouchers; hams; $40 seafood vouchers; $30 Lennard's vouchers; champagne; 1 L bottles of Port; six packs of beer, chocolates etc. We will then be closing for Xmas and reopen Wednesday 10 January. Of course any bowls can be played and/or organised during the Xmas/New year period. Merry Christmas

This Sunday 12 November is Affordable Screens & Blinds $200 Sponsorship Day. As attendance at the Wednesday twilight games is over 30 players, normal wine & voucher prizes have been given at the end of the night's 14 overs. Come along and enjoy a game of mixed bowls. Please be aware that with the influx of new residents that play bowls, games are not always triples. Fours are quite fun, and a different approach to the game. Redclaws will be holding two Xmas days again this year. Playing bowls then prizes will be given out on 10 and 17 December. Redclaws just held a sponsor day and again it was a well attended event. Yesterday our sponsor was Dr Isobel McLean, Bundaberg Eye Clinic $400 day. This was the second event Dr McLean has sponsored for the year. We thank all our sponsors with an overwhelming thank you as they supply $7,400 in money which Redclaws gives out as prizes directly to the bowlers. This year our two Christmas days are 10 and 17 December, following the same principal as last year ie bowls then free raffle tickets and one free drink per person. At the moment we are holding a type of "referendum" on whether bowlers would like to purchase new shirts instead of the blue ones used at present. If you are a bowler, the list for yes or no is on the noticeboard in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse.

The Redclaws Social Bowls Club Annual General Meeting minutes are for your perusal. Please read. This Sunday is a Sponsor Day "Odds versus Evens". This is your villa number for example villa 15 is odd so I play for the Odds. Our new Games Director Harold will be the person to contact for any queries. It is a $600 sponsor day - sponsors are the Residents Association and Hearing Australia. This will be followed by a sausage sizzle for the price of $3. This Sunday is 2023/2024 Annual General Meeting for the Redclaws Social Bowls Club. 10 am in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse. Val Watson is again the Transitional Officer. President Joan will be holding the President's Day following the meeting. Come along for some fun.

As the inter resort Bowls Competition is being held at end of August in Biloela, and so many bowlers will not be at the resort, the Affordable Screens & Blinds $400 Sponsorship Day has been moved to 8 October.

Please remember that the Redclaws Social Bowls Club is holding their AGM on Sunday 17 September at 10am. If you are interested in joining the Committee, nomination forms are available on the bench under the bowls noticeboard. Please come along and attend, have your say. We are nearing the end of the Championships. We are waiting for a semi final in the mixed triples to be played, then the finals. One team is already in the finals: Audrey, Harvey & Terry. So far the Singles Championships are going well. I have been putting games played on the Residents FB. Hope all are enjoying the games and results. We have new players and new residents this year. They all seem to be having a go and enjoying the new experience instead of just a social game. Good to see spectators coming along and watching. This helps in the atmosphere of the games. The Mens and Ladies 3 Bowl Pairs lists are now up, if anyone would like to participate, put your names down to play. Lead and Skip will be drawn "out of a hat" by Julia, Games Director and Warwick, an experienced bowls organiser.

Welcome back bowlers for 2023. I have just downloaded minutes for the first meeting held in January. There is a copy in the white folder near the bowls noticeboard. Have also downloaded a copy of the sponsors days for 2023. A copy is on the bowls noticeboard. Busy year ahead: we are starting the first sponsor day Des Allen Funerals $200 Sunday 22 January. Then Ian Long, Travel Managers $300 Sponsor Day on Sunday 5 February 2023. There will be a presentation at 9.30 am in the Theatre, followed by Bowls at 1pm. Flyers will be distributed. On Wednesday 15 February Darren McCracken (new owner of Crackers Bowls Shop) will hold a pop up shop between 2pm and 4pm near the craft rooms at the Bowls Green. This is a great opportunity for bowlers to upgrade their equipment, or new bowlers to try before you buy: bowls, arms, etc. Our resident coach, Bob villa 384, had 9 new bowlers last Monday. Sounds like a busy year ahead. If you require any further information please ring Marilyn villa 15. I have also placed Rules & Etiquette Books near the noticeboard. Well 2022 is coming to a close with only a few weeks to Xmas. Redclaws have a busy agenda with a Sponsor Day on Sunday 20 November: Affordable Screens & Blinds $400 day with meat voucher raffles and lucky villa draw. Then President Joan will hold her President's Day on Sunday 27 November with Xmas prizes.

Redclaws will hold the two Christmas Fun Day Bowls 4 and 11 December with 2 hours of bowls each day, followed by a free drink and free raffle entry. This is for Redclaws members only (both bowlers and non-bowlers). We will have "freebies" for "touchers" on the green. Then to finish off the year there will be a $300 Credence Insurance Sponsorship Day on 18 December, also the drawing of Julia' big mega raffle.

Mixed bowls will finish the year of 2022 on Friday 23 December. The bar will not be open, so let's make this a BYO following the game. Happy 2022 and looking forward to 2023.

Sponsorship Day this coming Sunday 19 June 2022 is Clear Optometry. Glenda and Geoff have other commitments on Sunday and will not be able to attend, but wish everyone an enjoyable day.

The Club Championships Pairs are moving fast now. With games being played Monday, Tuesday and two games today (Wednesday) 9.30 am and 1 pm. The standard of play is great and is enjoyable to watch. The mixed pairs is up on the bowls noticeboard and can start as soon as the pairs is out of the way. All must be finished by end of July 2022. This year we are giving out monetary prizes for both 1st and 2nd positions.

Keeping you all up to date. With the colder weather approaching, Wednesday 28 April will be the last twilight games. There will be a sausage sizzle on this night at 6pm following 14 ends of bowls. The list will go up on the board. For catering purposes we ask that players non-bowling partners' names please be placed on the non bowlers list which will be on the whiteboard. In May the first Wednesday games will then resume at 1.30pm. We are staying with the 1.30 start as this gives the Bingo players time to finish before we thirsty bowlers interrupt as we make our way to the bar. Friday and Sunday bowls will start at 1pm. We would like to see what interest there is for people wanting to play in the club championships. Julia will put a sheet up asking for names of people interested. This is a good way of learning the proper etiquette and rules of bowls. We don't care who wins or loses, just having fun.

Well we are heading for a Special Events Day being held next Sunday 23 August. The inaugural Mens Versus Ladies Day. Last year the men finished up 1 (one) point winners. At the moment the men have 2 reserves, the ladies have none so please put your names down as we still have a week to go. Teams will be decided on Thursday morning by: Frank Plant, Gary Kington, Julia Fagg and Marilyn Power. Come on girls, give it a go.

Minutes from the last meeting are in the Arch File on the desk where you put your names down. We try to keep all informed of what is happening.

There are new signs on the tables. Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, there are only 6 chairs/people per table. please do not add more. I know we have partners who wish to sit and join in, but the Bar area is also under strict rules and regulations. If we break these then the bar could be closed and we do not want this to happen.

The greens are open BUT rules apply. We thank you for your patience. Notices have been put up at the greens. Only 16 players on the main green at any one time. Only 12 players on the back green at any one time. NO MORE than 4 people per rink with 1 rink distancing. Jacks must be sanitised/washed before and after use.

We ask that people be considerate as we now have approx. 340 bowlers. No spectators allowed. No after game socialising.

Please help us keep the rules and regulations to keep Covid safe.

Scroungers will not be starting as yet, maybe June. This is up to Frank. He will keep you all informed.

Mens Morning Bowls will start 2 June. Paul will put the sheet up on the Sunday prior. As the clubhouses are not open the sheets will all be on the board at the base of the steps.

Cathy has Ladies morning bowls in hand. Will keep you informed of time and date. Probably first Thursday in June.

Gary/Suzanne will look at starting Saturday pairs on June 6.

Lights on new bowling green

NEWS: PLR have informed John Villa 7, they have approved the replacement of the current lights with LED lights. As soon as new lights become available the changeover will be done. At this stage there is no timeline. We will keep you informed.

Redclaws Committee have made the decision that the playing of bowls will continue, but there will not be any congregating of people in the clubhouse following the games. This includes Sunday. Sunday sponsorship day will be deferred, but normal bowls will occur, just no drinks, eat, prizes in the clubhouse following the game. Palm Lake Care are taking precautionary measures with "inmates" taking meals in their rooms. Visitors are still welcome but with care and no signs of flu.

Recent news re greens

Today, Wednesday 11 March at 1pm start, we will be playing 4's against visitors from Gold Coast Seachange. These visitors live in a similar situation as we do ie resort style living. At 3.30pm we will be having a drink at the bar. Prior to the bowls game we will be showing our visitors around the clubhouses, etc. Please say hello. On Sunday 15 March we will be going ahead with the Affordable Blinds Sponsorship Day. NOTE: 11am game of 4's, then at 1.30pm another game of 4's. At approx. 3.30 pm we will have BBQ and prizes in the old clubhouse. Please note that all games are being played on the old green. We ask that all residents be patient until the caretakers can get the lights sorted and checked out on the new green. We do not want anyone put in danger from falling lights. At this stage the Easts Vs West game due to be played 5 April may be deferred until later in the year. The Redclaws Social Bowls Committee are doing their best to keep everyone informed.

New Bowling Rink

Please note, that today Sunday 8 March a light has fallen from the roof of the new green onto the playing area. This has been passed through to Palm Lake. As from today until further notice this playing green has been closed. For now it is in the hands of Palm Lake. We hopefully will keeping playing on the old rink, but will keep everyone informed when we know more.

We have Gold Coast RV Seachange Group coming to have a game of bowls on Wednesday 11 March. These visitors come from a similar home base as PLR Roamers (our caravan group). We are expecting approx. 24-30 players on the day with prize, kabana & cheese nibbles. The playing list is up on the board. A good showing would be great.

Please note that the bowls shed is being reorganised as we do not have any more room. Please note that if your bowls are in the bowls shed and you do not bowl anymore, please removed your old bowls as they are taking up room. PLR is expanding so your help is required. Also the Redclaws Bowls Committee has purchased bowls for people to use TO LEARN to play bowls prior to residents purchasing their own. They MUST stay in the bowls shed.

The Redclaws Social Bowls Club invites residents to become members. $1/life member. Either player or non player (social member). This entitles you to join in our sponsorship games, weekly prize draws, special events ie Ladies vs Men, State of Origin and East vs West. Also our Christmas lunch (members only). Please see one of our committee members. Membership forms are kept in the "Arch" file on the bowls desk. This file also includes copies of all meeting minutes, treasurer reports for your information.

Please note that when using our Bowling Greens, correct footwear MUST be worn ie bowling shoes. Please do not wear sneakers or heels. Socks can be worn NOT bare feet as the oil in your soles marks the carpet.

Also if you feel that your bowling is not up to standard and you require a bit of assistance, please do not be afraid to ask for help from our resident accredited coach, Bob McNamee in villa 7384.

We as a committee are always approachable, and if we can help in any way please do not hesitate to ask. Reminder that meeting minutes are kept in the Arch File in the Bowls area and are there for all to peruse.

Hope you all had a good break. Redclaws is officially starting the season on Sunday 12 January. The roll up during the break has been great. We would like to give a big thank you to Bill Kirby for his organising of games. It is with regret that we have said goodbye to two of our members - Brian Creek and Stuart Tessier. On the upside we say hello to new members and hope you all enjoy the coming 2020 season.

Well guys we are heading for a Christmas Break. Don't forget the Bowls Xmas Lunch on Saturday 7 December 2019. We require help in setting up for this day, so for the lovely volunteers - Saturday at 7 am for setting up. Tables, chair, tablecloths etc. Thanks in advance. The last day for organised bowls is Sunday 15 December, restarting 12 January 2020. Of course, Bill Kirby, myself and Julia (one of us - maybe)will be available if things need sorting out ie nobody wants to organise games with over say 12 people. Please note, Sunday 27 October will be an ordinary Sunday for playing bowls i.e. moneyboard, residents playing etc. Bargara Bowls Club (Bream) are at this stage unable to send enough players to play PLR for the shield. Shield games will start in earnest in 2020. Sponsor days, special events, Bargara and East Bundaberg game days will be posted on the Bowls Noticeboard when finalised.

Please note that there will be a Des Allen Funerals Sponsorship Bowls Day on Sunday 6 October 2019. $7 cost to play, this includes a steakburger or hamburger, lucky villa and prizes. Also raffles for meat trays will be available.

On 27 October Bargara Bowls Club members have been invited to play (at PLR). At this stage, we will be asking players to bring a plate, same as the East Bundaberg game. There will be prize money and meat tray raffles. Please note that if you wish to play for Bargara and not Palm Lake, there will be a green fee of $10.
