Statement from Residents Committee Wed 21 May 25
Statement from the Committee of the Palm Lake Bargara Residents Association Inc.

Following the unexpected resignation of the President and Secretary of the Residents Association on Sunday morning, the remaining Committee met on Tuesday at 1pm.

As a result of these resignations, we were faced with the very real and untenable reality of not having a committee at all - which would have meant having to close bars, cease all Social activities, close bank accounts and transfer all funds to a suitable non-profit organisation.

Hence our first order of business was to form a strong and cohesive Committee. And time was absolutely the number one priority to ensure that the Committee continued to function as it is essential that accounts are paid, correspondence is managed, activities are organised, and issues relating to Residents are acted upon where such action is necessary.

We are pleased to advise our Residents that a new-look committee was unanimously formed, all in accordance with our Constitution. Dean Murray, the current Treasurer, was approached and agreed to take on the role of Acting President for remainder of term.

A brief biography of Dean is as follows:

   Justice of the Peace (Qual)
   15 years’ experience with the Inland Revenue Department of New Zealand as a Senior Auditor
   Since moving to Australia, gained management experience in a finance field
   Experience as Transport Driver/Driver Trainer

Julie Thompson will fill the role of Secretary and a former Secretary/Treasurer Jacki Davies has offered to take on the role of Treasurer as required.

We have hit the ground running, meeting for over three and half hours today to ensure we were across all current agenda items.

Long term, the aim of the remaining elected Committee members is to form a strong cohesive Committee that can continue to work in the best interests of all the residents of Palm Lake Resort, Bargara. We trust the residents of Palm Lake Bargara will be understanding of these decisions and support the Committee in going forward.

The Golf Simulator, located in the last building near the fence in the Sea Breeze Club House block is open for play. It is available for Residents and their Guests to use all of whom must be over 18 years of age. It is an Alcohol free area. Further information on its use can be found on the Golf Website.

Bridge players are invited to meet on 1st & 3rd Sundays 2 - 4 pm in the Card Room upstairs in the Ocean Breeze Clubhouse. The elevator is now working which will be great news for those who could not manage the stairs. Please register your interest in playing on the board in the OBC or ring Heather on 7097. If necessary we can try and provide partners but it is great if you have a regular partner as it makes the game so much more enjoyable.. For residents interested in learning Bridge, it may be possible to run lessons before our regular play if there is enough interest. Do let us know if you have an interest in learning. It is a very addictive game and good for keeping Alzheimers at bay (so they tell me!)
